Home Improvement Consumer Trends: Insights from Cleveland Research Company

Share

Homeowners love their current homes—many so much that nearly half aren’t planning to move for the next 20 years, Cleveland Research Company reports. In fact, 85% of surveyed homeowners are happy where they are, and among those who do plan to move in the next 1-5 years, most are younger, confident in their DIY skills, and ready to invest in their home projects.

But while many have the intention to take on new projects, real-life constraints like high costs and time shortages are causing delays. Nearly 60% of homeowners surveyed have postponed or canceled planned projects for 2024. For most, rising costs for materials and hiring pros are the biggest barriers, though high-income homeowners cite lack of time as a major challenge.

Ultimately, homeowners are eager to update and repair their homes but are often hindered by finances or busy schedules. For industry professionals, these insights reveal that while demand is there, offering budget-friendly, time-saving solutions could help turn these intentions into action.
